Movimientos
@ Rich Mix
Thursday 18th February / Thursday 11th March / and on the 2nd Thursday of the month thereafter until 8th July.
Movimientos announces a 6-month residency at Rich Mix beginning in February with an exceptional programme of live Latin music with some of the finest emerging Latin musicians and artists in the UK alongside an exciting selection of radical documentary films on Latin America giving a voice to those who are fighting for social justice across the continent. Plus DJs, visuals, photography and Latin food with the Rich Mix’s kitchen fires up a themed menu for each night with a different country and theme each month.
The first three months will host exciting new acts that have emerged on the Latin scene in the last couple of years – In February Los Chinches will bring their rocking Peruvian Cumbia after tearing down Rich Mix on New Years Eve, in March Afro-America, with their blistering take on Afro-Venezuelan roots, and April sees the sublime Khantara whose highly original mix of Afro-Colombian rhythms with Gypsy and Arabic instruments has been captivating audiences all over the UK for a while now.
With the series of documentary film screenings Movimientos aims to give a voice and a platform to the rarely heard (and often mis-represented) voices of Latin America from communities that are resisting powerful corporations, and corrupt governments, defending their land and basic human rights, whilst also documenting the histories of recent political movements.
