Movimientos Live returns after a hectic summer of festivals, taking bands and DJs to and hosting stages at Glastonbury, Lovebox, Secret Garden Party, The Big Chill and Stop Making Sense Festival in Croatia amongst others.
September’s installment brings together another selection the freshest new acts from the UK Latin underground live music scene and a unique clubnight where the DJs represent the funkiest underground Latino sounds. Tonight to celebrate Brazilian Independence Day we launch a new 40 track compilation from DJ Mais Um Gringo entitled ‘Oi! A Nova Musica Brasilera’ featuring a staggeringly fresh insight into the new sounds of Brazil from rock to roots, electronic and experimental. For a free 4 track download check the Mais Um Discos website http://maisumdiscos.net/
Live wise headliners Latin Dub Soundsystem return to the Arts club with their skanking hot brew of Latin rhythms, Hip Hop, Dub fried Carnival beats with an outstanding live band and fronted by the charismatic Colombian Hip Hop flows of MC Magico and the soulful vocal tones of the amazing Eva Abraham, they’ve been busy throughout the summer with various festival shows and come to this gig on the back of a show at Stop Making Sense Festival in Croatia. Their pedigree is not in doubt and for more evidence check their forthcoming debut album later this year. BIG!
Cumbé bring a traditional element with their brand of Colombian roots sounds, a previous incarnation of the band in the form of Koguiwa made their debut at the Arts Club two years ago and ripped it up so this is a welcome return for half the band and here they are showcasing their self penned songs including Champeta, Cumbia and Mapale rhythms, very infectious stuff.
Frontera play a quirky mix of classic Latin anthems in a upbeat rock style, they mix cover versions with a selection of their own original songs
Whilst Movimientos DJs Cal Jader, Arias and guests present a bang up to date brand of across the board Latin flavours from Cumbia mash ups to Salsa Dura, electronic and urban beats.
Early on we feature a series of short films from Brazil including the award winning ‘Surburban Madness’ and more TBC
Tonight’s live guests include some of the most exciting new Latin acts in London.
