FAKE ORGASM

Fake Orgasm - Catalan Window - London Spansih Festival 2010

Fake Orgasm

Filmmaker Jo Sol invites us to reflect on questions of identity and sexuality. His vehicle? This provocative and gripping documentary about erotic performance artist, Laszlo Pearlman, a self-proclaimed ‘activist and situationist’ who wants to question and challenge the way people think about themselves, their body and their sexuality. Visually striking, the film shows full-frontal nudity but always focuses on its purpose, that of challenging conventional society.

FAMILY STRIP

FAMILY STRIP - Catalan Window - London Spanish Film Festival 2010

An improvised film intended as a ‘family present’, suddenly becomes the chronical of a generation that disappears. Miñarro, a producer on the recent Cannes Palme d’Or winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, treats us here with a sober but engaging portrait of his family, communicating through his parents’ testimony, the resonances of a country affected by Catholicism and a civil war.

Actors, like magicians, do not reveal their secrets. Veteran actor José María Pou makes an exception and allows the cameras to film him while preparing to play Orson Welles on stage. Masks takes us behind the scenes, away from the public eye, to watch an actor become his character. Pure magic.

MONICA DEL RAVAL

MONICA DEL RAVAL - Catalan Window - London Spansih Fim Festival 2010

Monica del Raval

Betriu’s documentary provokes surprise and amusement as well as horror and tenderness in his portrait of a prostitute who for years could be seen in front of Barcelona’s classy opera, the Liceu. Though the film offers a portrait of Mónica, it is also a portrait of a neighbourhood in Barcelona called El Raval, which the director tours us through. Compelling and humorous, the film comes alive thanks to the charm and candour of Mónica.

XTREMS

xTREMS - Catalan Window - London Spansih Film Festival 2010

Xtrems

Xtrems is the compelling and highly achieved first film of multi-faceted artists Folk and Riedweg. Scenes in which actors meet the real people their characters are based on, alternate with fictional sequences depicting addictions of various kinds. The border between reality and fiction blurs as the two worlds interact in recreating the excesses of individuals leading double lives under the guise of normality.
