‘Haga que pase’: Make it happen!
A series of short documentaries, music videos and images show the process of community organization and resistance. This participatory action arose in the face of vulnerability to losing the land: one of the few things that keep the community united and free. Since the abolition of slavery in Colombia, the land has sustained the food supply and the economy of the Afro-descendant people of Villa Rica. Today the sugar companies dominate the area, planting sugar cane as a monoculture, thereby forcing out the traditional small farms of the region. Some families are resisting this eviction and the loss of their livelihoods. As a result, the life of Jota Ramos, one of the community leaders, is being threatened. Persons as yet unidentified have accused him of subversion, a very dangerous accusation in Colombia, and warned him against working for his community.

Jota Ramos
Currently touring Europe Jota Ramos is part of Colombian Hip Hop group Soporte Klan. Fearing an increasingly uncertain future of poverty in his hometown, Jota Ramos, a young Afro-Colombian is fighting for change in Villa Rica using hip-hop music. Their songs focus on community issues and by getting young people involved in the group, he is taking them away from the temptation of drugs and street crime.

Jardares Por Fuera
Rumba Flamenco fused with a touch of Reggae, Swing & Hip Hop
Formed in 2009 ‘Jardares por Fuera’ fuses old style Flamenco with Hip Hop, Reggae, Rumba and Swing in a fresh mix of simplicity and extravagance. They’ve recently had a storming summer playing killer sets at UK festivals from Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Secret Garden Party and Lovebox.
The band comprises a group of London based Spanish musicians, Davinia Baño on vocals and Pablo Dominguez on the guitar joined by the lead singer of ‘Mano de Dios’, Jackson Scott (vocals and guitar), Gori Matas on the Piano and Accordion, Ayoze Hernandez on the Cajon and drums and Joe James on Bass. They are constantly collaborating with musicians from the local scene to develop their very unique style.
The name ‘Jardares por Fuera’ comes from a local expression of Murcia (Spain) that stands for an un-tucked shirt, a symbol of the unconventional, all that stays outside the rules.
