CirColombia Review

Considering that 50% of Circolombia’s profits go to the professional circus school for youngsters to succeed against the odds in Colombia, and the fact that I had the Privilege of going to the photo-call on the morning of the 4th of April, I had a good idea of what to expect. What I saw at the photo call had whetted my appetite.
The show started with the “man mountain” seemingly running for his life, not long after, the gang arrives. The show then kicks off with a high energy performance which does not abeit until the very end.
CirColombia captivates its audience with its genuinejaw dropping acrobatics. On this particular evening it was press night. Nerves were apparent as there were some minor slip ups, but in my opinion this just added to the shows rawness.
The two tight rope walkers executed moves which had me do a double take in utter disbelief, I really did not think that this was possible by any “Man”. Up until this point I was just shy of being in awe and the jaw dropping acts just kept on coming. This all comes in a nicely choreographed Street Hip Hop attitude, be aware that this is not a Hip Hop dance act more of a Urban Street Circus which infuses Hip Hop Music and Latino attitude.
The encore saw the smallest guy in the show sent flying, flipping spiraling through the air to land on the shoulders of one of his companeros, believe it or not there were another two men beneath him, making him the fourth man on the top of this human ladder. He did it with such audacity, with such aplomb that it was without any shadow of a doubt the coolest moment of the evening. I was no longer in awe because their performance was such that it was becoming the norm.
I’ve seen Cirque de Soliel and now CirColombia and these shows are very different, so don’t even try and compare them. This show does so much good that it would be unfair to do so.
If you get the chance, go and see this show! It’s great fun and an inspiring evening. I know I’m going back, and this time I’m paying for my ticket.
Gracias CirColombia
